with Peter Lorber & Courtenay Gilbert
Monument Valley, Page & Canyon de Chelly
May 24-29, 2015
We will be starting this western adventure in Page, Arizona known for its mysterious slot canyons the perfect environment for capturing the light as it bounces off and hugs the deep rich orange canyon walls creating naturally abstract and sensual images. Page’s canyons is also where the worlds most expensive photograph taken by Peter Lik. We will be guided to the same location and many others by the same expert Navajo guide who led Lik.
When you conjure up an image of „The West“ in your mind, chances are you are envisioning Monument Valley. It’s a landscape so impressive and magnificent that it has been featured in countless TV shows, commercials, and Hollywood movies — especially Westerns.
The Navajo tribal park, Monument Valley with it’s epic vistas and massive noble monuments of red sandstone is located along the border of Utah and Arizona. During our daily expeditions we will be guided to incredible photographic locations by a local Navajo guide.
The Canyon de Chelly National Monument combines the natural beauty of slick red rock and the historical time capsule of the Navajo Native Americans. Looking down the edge of the canyon reveals an ancient city still teeming with life as Navajo farmers fill the orange land with green stalks of corn and pastures of cottonwoods, seemingly forgetful of the developments of the past 2,000 years. The breathtaking streaked walls of the canyon bounce light throughout their crevices, creating a fire within the valley, illuminating the ancient life below. Both the Natives who call this spectacular place home and the tourists visiting for the experience of a lifetime agree that Canyon de Chelly is one of the most stunning places in the West.
This workshop is led by Peter Lorber, a master panoramic photographer, and Courtenay Gilbert, a professional photographer, post production specialist. They will work with you to expand and improve your photography skills. They will also show you how to create technically perfect and artistically stunning panoramic images using various panoramic VR drives from manual heads to the top of the line Seitz Roundshot motorized VR drive. You will learn how to stitch your panoramas using professional stitching programs such as PTgui and, finally, how to optimize your images in Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
Hasselblad, Nikon, Canon and other brand shooters will benefit from Peter and Courtenay’s over one hundred years of combined photography experience. They will share tips, technics and camera set-ups learned over time.
Our small group sizes allow us to customize our workshops to your individual needs. We make sure you get the personal attention you need to get the most out of your time with us.
Due to popular demand, in addition to four full days of guided photo shoots, we have added an extra day to the end of this workshop to work on the amazing images you will capture during the workshop. We will go over organizing your images, learning proper stitching techniques and answer any Photoshop and Lightroom questions you may have.
This workshop is designed for the advanced beginner, intermediate and advanced photography enthusiast interested in taking great photos in beautiful locations and having an amazing photography workshop vacation!
This is not a workshop where you spend most of your daylight shooting hours sitting in a classroom. We get you up and out to make the most of each and every day to capture as many great photo opportunities as possible.
