Itinerary

This is not a workshop where you spend most of your daylight shooting hours sitting in a classroom. We get you up and out to make the most of each and every day to capture as many great photo opportunities as possible.

Day 1, Sunday, February 17 - Welcome to Costa Rica! Upon arrival to San Jose, a driver who will welcome you and take you to your hotel. Your next three nights will be spent at Chayote Lodge, a beautiful coffee-inspired lodge located in the valley region not far from San Jose. The rest of the afternoon will be at leisure to get settled in and give you some flexibility with international flight times. Dinner will be included tonight at Chayote Lodge.

Day 2, Monday, February 18 - Today you will visit Zarcero Park to experience the amazing topiary gardens. Following your tour of the park you will explore the town of Toro Amarillo and have a light hike through the forest as you make your way to the largest waterfall in Costa Rica, El Toro Waterfall, for some excellent photography opportunities! This evening you will have dinner back at Chayote Lodge.

Day 3, Tuesday, February 19 - Venture into the Arenal Volcano region today to visit La Fortuna Waterfall and the Arenal 1968 reserve trail for opportunities to photograph the impressive volcano and unique landscapes. Later this evening you will have a privately guided evening walk around the Arenal Nature Park. This will be a great opportunity for some wildlife photography, specifically some different frog species and the unique flora and fauna of this region. Dinner will be included tonight at a local restaurant in the town of La Fortuna before heading back to Chayote where you will spend your final night.

Day 4, Wednesday, February 20 - This morning you will check out at Chayote Lodge and have a private transfer to Puerto Carillo on the Nicoya Peninsula. En route you will visit to the Palo Verde National Park and Hacienda El Viejo, inland from the Pacific coast. This area protects varied habitats including mangrove, swamps, lagoons and marshes. You will take a guided boat trip along the Tempisque River for some more wildlife photography. From here you will have a chance to spot monkeys, iguanas, and many other species along with a variety of bird life! Your next three nights will be spent at Nammbú Beachfront Bungalows, a family run property that is the perfect little beach oasis on the coast. Dinner will be included tonight at your hotel.

Day 5, Thursday, February 21 - You will get another chance to photograph some beautiful waterfall landscapes today with a privately guided visit to the Belen waterfalls near the town of Samara. Following your visit to the falls you will continue on to Guaitil, a small village known for its pre-Columbian Chorotega style pottery where you will learn about the local handicrafts. Lunch will be included at a local restaurant and dinner will be included tonight back at your hotel.

Day 6, Friday, February 22  - Today your private guide will take you to visit Carillo and Samara beaches for some coastal photography where there will be some great viewpoints and beach scenery along the way. You will have lunch at a local restaurant and dinner will be included back at your hotel.

Day 7, Saturday, February 23 - Sadly today is your final day in Costa Rica. You will have a private transfer from Carillo Beach back to San Jose in time for your international flight home. The drive is about 4.5 hours so we recommend a late afternoon flight. *Do keep in mind that we can always arrange an additional night nearby the airport to help out with flight times so this can be flexible.
