As vibrant American cars of the 1950s and 1960s bring to life the streets, and exuberant street theatre whirls around the crumbling facades with colorful balconies, you will have the opportunity to photograph the essence of Cuba from the best vantage points, under the expert guidance of Peter Lorber and Courtenay Gilbert.
Along with a resident guide fluent in both English and Spanish, we will take you places normally untouched by tourists, uncovering the genuine Cuba. In Havana, you will be plunged into daily Cuban life, becoming one with with local culture at unique locations such as colorful Afro-Cuban streets, boxing gyms, and city squares rooted in history. Away from Havana you will explore the pristine countryside of the Viñales valley and a rural Cuba that no guidebook could contain.
These sights are paired with the expertise of on-hand professional photographers Peter Lorber and Courtenay Gilbert as they teach you how to get the most from your gear and show you some new techniques to capture the unique beauty and textures of Cuba. In addition a local guide with vast knowledge of the culture, history and landscapes of Cuba, will make sure you get to the best locations at the best possible light.

Who and What
Our photography workshops are for discriminating photography enthusiasts of all skill levels.
We provide the perfect environment for you to combine your love of travel and passion for photography while surrounded by like minded people in a fun, relaxed and creative atmosphere.
This workshop is led by Peter Lorber, a master panoramic photographer, and Courtenay Gilbert, a professional photographer, post production specialist. They will work with you to expand and improve your photography skills.
You will have the opportunity to shoot with the Hasselblad H6D-100C, one hundred megapixels of unmatched image quality with the finest details and a 15 stop dynamic range, the Hasselblad X1D, the world's first compact mirrorless medium format digital camera, and a variety of Hasselblad lenses and accessories. Both Peter and Courtenay are Hasselblad trained professionals and have been training top photographers for over ten years.
They will also show you how to create technically perfect and artistically stunning panoramic images using various panoramic VR drives from manual heads to the top of the line Seitz Roundshot motorized VR drive.
You will learn how to stitch your panoramas using professional stitching programs such as PTgui and, finally, how to optimize your images in Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
Hasselblad, Nikon, Canon and other brand shooters will benefit from Peter and Courtenay’s over one hundred years of combined photography experience. They will share tips, techniques and camera set-ups learned over time.
Our small group sizes allow us to customize our workshops to your individual needs. We make sure you get the personal attention you need to get the most out of your time with us.
In addition to guided photo shoots, we will also spend time working on the amazing images you will capture during the workshop. We will go over organizing your images, learning proper stitching techniques and answer any Photoshop and Lightroom questions you may have.
This workshop is designed for the advanced beginner, intermediate and advanced photography enthusiast interested in taking great photos in beautiful locations and having an amazing photography workshop vacation!
This is not a workshop where you spend most of your daylight shooting hours sitting in a classroom. We get you up and out to make the most of each and every day to capture as many great photo opportunities as possible.
Day 1, Saturday, February 24 - ARRIVAL IN HAVANA, CUBA
Arrive in Cuba, transport to your hotel in Havana. Group dinner and meeting. We will briefly go over the itinerary, meet our local guide and prepare for our adventure in Cuba. This evening will also present the perfect opportunity for us to take a walk along the Malecon, feeling the sea breeze and seeing all that the city has to offer as the sunsets.
Day 2, Sunday, February 25 - HAVANA
Today we will capture the lively street theatre of Havana Vieja. Our local guide will take us to streets not often frequented by tourists as well as the four main squares and points of interest. The focus today is on Cuban culture and Cuban people. We will share with you tips about taking photos in Cuba, including the Cuban personality with photographers and the people and places you shouldn’t photograph. Today we will also have the opportunity to photograph colorful markets, courtyards and terraces as well as a vintage gym which provides a very unique atmosphere.
Day 3, Monday, February 26 - HAVANA
Today the focus is on Afro-Cuban roots and Afro-Cuban religion. We will visit an Afro-Cuban priest and get the opportunity to take photos of Afro-dancers during their daily performances. We will visit the colorful streets of Callejon de Hammel to view Salvador Gonzales Escalona handiwork as a famous cuban painter, muralist and sculptor. In the evening during sunset, we will visit the Malecon and the Prado intersection. Making sure you are in the right place at the right moment, in the right light!
Day 4, Tuesday, February 27 - VIÑALES
This morning we will be up early and on our way to the rural township of Viñales. We will have lunch at the Los Jasmines look-out point and you will be blown away by the natural beauty of this area. We will photograph a hidden community of farmers, visit the valley to shoot landscapes and people and their relationship with tobacco, animals and the land. Accompanied by our local guide, we will learn all about the special lifestyle in this area. The evening provides a fantastic opportunity to enjoy local music amongst the warm and friendly locals. (Overnight in Vañales)
Day 5, Wednesday, February 28 - VIÑALES BACK TO HAVANA
This morning we will be up early again to journey into the heart of the valley. Here we will meet farmers who are preparing their morning coffee and meet the local wildlife amongst a sea of green back-drops. We will go inside the houses of the locals, getting to know the families as we share a local “criollo coffee”. Be ready to capture memorable portraits and daily scenes of this special part of Cuba. Take photos of the beautiful Viñales valley until your heart is content and visit a Tobacco farm to see a cigar rolling demonstration and learn more about the local industry. In the afternoon you will travel back to Havana with our guide.
Day 6, Thursday, March 1 - HAVANA
Today we will explore the many facets of street photography, exploring new areas of the city. We will focus on the Classic American cars that cruise the streets as well as external colonial facades and families on balconies. We will visit a Cuban family in Havana to learn more about daily life and visit a Cuban boxing gym to see them train. We will also visit the San Jose Market meeting well known painters, sculptors and artisans. This is a great opportunity to view cuban art, finding many photographic opportunities that mix paintings with people.
Day 7, Friday, March 2 - HAVANA
Today we will follow the Che Guevara route in Havana. There are many graffiti works of Che Guevara in Havana of which some are hidden and others are not. While strolling the Che Guevara Route we will visit other points of interest and visit a popular Cuban photographer to learn more about their work and photography in Cuba. We will end the day with a special farewell dinner.
Day 8, Saturday, March 3 - Havana
